The music that became ”Threshing Floor” was originally intended for live performance at a bar and lounge in Ithaca, NY, as a part of a larger repertoire of ambient music and loop based improvisations. The pieces were designed to alternately subdue or engage the listener, slowly or even unnoticeably. The performances were tailored in the moment to the atmosphere in the room and the patrons who joined us.

After six months of writing, rehearsing, and performing, our focus shifted towards recording these extended compositions that were the centerpieces of our live performance.

During the production, overdubs were added to significantly expand the limits of three performers, as well as layering electronic instrumentation and programmed parts. Without having to consider the mood of a venue's audience, many sections took on new and heavier sounds and experimentation with drum multitracking and nontraditional instruments.

The final additions were made to fill out the sound with extra percussion, synth textures, and ambient effects processing, before completing with the mixing and mastering stages.
